Eric Bulmahn

Eric Bulmahn

Eric brings an impressive coaching and playing resume to Circle City. Eric's volleyball career at Ball State began as an outside hitter, but found himself starting as a Middle Blocker by his Senior season when the Cardinals climbed to 9th in the National rankings.

Eric’s playing career includes:

  • Captain in 1986
  • All Conference in 1986
  • NCAA Final Four in 1985
  • Starting OH and MB for Ball State
  • All-American in 1991 - Open division at US Nationals
  • 5 years on the Midwest Professional Volleyball Association Beach Circuit (94-99)

Coach Bulmahn began his coaching career as an assistant to Don Shondell for the Ball State Men's team in 1987, where he was in charge of team blocking techniques and strategies, along with scouting and strength training. Players under Eric's tutelage earned All-American status, and have gone on to have successful coaching careers of their own such as Chris Beerman (Kenucky) and Joel Walton (BSU).

Eric moved to Indianapolis to join Tom Pingel and Circle City in 1988, coaching an 18's team. In the early 90's , Eric started up a boys club team which has produced coaches here in Indianapolis. One of which has won a State championship. From there Eric, started playing in the Midwest Professional Volleyball Association until 2000. After retiring from the beach game, he returned to Circle City to co-coach a 16's team.

This will be Eric's 12th year coaching at Circle City. Prior teams have won 5 qualifier championships and finished in the top 4 of qualifiers 10 times. The 2006 17's team finished 5th in the Nation followed by a 9th in the United States with the 18's team in 2007. Former players under his direction have earned scholarships to schools in the PAC 10, Big 10, Southern Belt, OVC, SEC, Big East and many others.

Eric has worked many college camps including an Elite outside attacking and Purdue Team camp where his teams have won the last 3 camp championships.

Referee Bulmahn also has been a Men's and Women's collegiate referee for 22 years with 4 NCAA Final Four Selections.

His personal life focuses around his wife of 15 years, Monica, and their 3 daughters: Jaclyn(11), Victoria(8), and Cecilia(6) and professionally works for a Business Intelligence consulting company.
